WHAT REALLY ARE INSTANT NOODLES ?!

Heard rumors that it's bad for health? . See for yourself how bad it is indeed.Here is all you need to know about instant noodles.

Instant noodles are pre-made noodles, made of wheat flour, water, salt, and Kansui 【枧水】(an alkaline water that adds elasticity to the noodles). The ingredients are made into a dough, dough is rolled out and cut into thin noodles.

 

The noodles are then steamed and are finally packaged after dehydration. The noodles are almost completely dehydrated by frying them in oil at a high temperature.

HOW HARMFUL ARE INSTANT NOODLES TO YOUR HEALTH?

1. DIGESTION PROBLEMS

Compared to fresh homemade noodles that gets instantly digested in 1-2 hours,instant noodles do not break up, remains intact and undigested in the stomach even hours after consumption!

This study was conducted by Dr. Braden Kuo, Gastroenterologist, Massachusetts General Hospital, using pill cameras in subjects who were asked to consume instant noodles and fresh homemade ramen noodles every other day during the study.

Instant Noodles contains Contains TBHQ (Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone). TBHQ is a food addictive used to extend shelf life and prevent rancidity, which many food manufacturers find beneficial.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the safe doses of TBHQ intake is about 0.68 mg/kg of body weight.

3. MAY CAUSE VISION DISTURBANCES

Although not so common, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) has reported various cases of vision disturbance linked to TBHQ exposure.

4. LIVER ENLARGEMENT, NEUROTOXICITY, CONVULSIONS & PARALYSIS

According to a study carried by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) on animals, TBHQ was found to cause liver enlargement, neurotoxic effects, convulsions, and paralysis on the laboratory animals.

5. AFFECT HUMAN BEHAVIOR

TBHQ due to it’s potential to affect Human Behavior is on the “do not consume” list of the Feingold Diet, a dietary approach to managing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Do not consume at all !

Instant noodles come in packages that contain Bisphenol A (BPA) and enters your body when these instant noodles are cooked in the cup itself by adding super hot water.

The safe dosage of Bisphenol A (BPA) according to the European Food Safety Agency (ESFA) is 4 μg/kg·bw/day. Still it has been shown that BPA still does exert negative effects at this safety dosage too ! So, the ‘safe’ dose of BPA still remains controversial.

6. MALE IMPOTENCE & INFERTILITY

Based on studies published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) has been linked to Male Impotence & infertility in woman. To note that a high-level exposure may increase the risk of erectile dysfunction and problems with sexual desire and ejaculation.

8. HEART DISEASE

Heart Disease has been linked to even low dose of Bisphenol A. Other problems associated are including Coronary Artery Heart Disease, Angina, Heart Attack, Hypertension , and Peripheral Artery Disease.

Type 2 Diabetes are prompt to occur from even low exposure to Bisphenol A due to it’s contribution to insulin resistance

10. BREAST AND PROSTATE CANCER

People who were exposed Bisphenol A in the womb increases the risk of breast and prostate cancer. Moreover BPA could interfere with the effectiveness of chemotherapy in breast cancer treatment. 11. FETAL BRAIN DEVELOPMENT

Fetal Brain Development is also affected. Environmental exposure to BPA has the potential to affect the developing brain during gestation, according to research. This includes changes in structural development and DNA modifications.

Instant noodles contain Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), a common food additive used to enhance flavor in processed foods. (MSG also goes by the common name, Umami or Ajinamoto)

12. MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE COMPLEX

Over the years, the FDA has received many anecdotal reports of adverse reactions to foods containing MSG. These reactions known as MSG symptom complex includes :

  • Headache Flushing Sweating     

  • Facial pressure or tightness   

  • Numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas.

  • Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations)  

  • Chest pain  

  • Nausea Weakness

Researches has shown that MSG may negatively impact brain health. One test-tube study found that MSG cause swelling and death of mature brain cells.

14. OBESITY AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Some studies showed that high MSG consumption causes weight gain and even increased blood pressure, headaches and nausea.

15. METABOLIC SYNDROME IN WOMEN

A 2014 study looked at the diets of 10,711 adults. It found that eating instant noodles at least twice per week increased the risk of metabolic syndrome in women by 68%.

16. UNHEALTHY

Unhealthy and detrimental for health, This one quite popular, i believe everybody knows about how unhealthy are instant noodles. And please don't be fooled by those few green herbs or beans they add, does not contain significant nutritional value at all.

Fried in oil, specially those fried in palm oil which is detrimental to human health.

Moreover the high sodium content in those noodles is something we should worry about.


According to a study, instant noodles was associated with decreased levels of vitamin D. It was also associated with obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and intake of sugar-sweetened beverages.

#4 A single sachet of instant noodle contain 2700mg sodium, already exceeded the safety sodium limit which is 2300mg.

 

#5 Ramen comes from Japan but made with Chinese ingredients , therefore causing the Chinese to think it’s a Japanese dish, and the Japanese thinking it’s a Chinese dish.

 

#6 Once considered Luxurious. When Momokufu Ando first released Chicken Ramen to the Japanese supermarkets in 1958, it was six times more expensive than fresh udon noodles. This made ramen noodles unaffordable to the vast majority of poor Japanese people.

 

#7 You would only need $140 to spend annually on food if you were to eat instant noodles every meal. Note that the average American spends $7,852 on food each year. You would get food for 56 years.

If after reading all this you still want to your favorite “instant noodles” , here’s some advice that will help you to lessen the amount of toxic you are ingesting..,

  • Boil the noodles thoroughly and dispose of the brew containing the chemicals and preservatives in the noodle. Add the seasoning to another bowl of hot water in case you want a sauce. But do not drink the chemicals water that has been used to boil the noodles.

 

  • Do not add the whole flavor seasoning sachet that comes along with the noodles. These are loaded with chemicals such as SMG. Instead add some homemade condiments and spices to your noodle and customize it your own way.

 

  • Have instant noodles only once in 2 weeks. Try to avoid it as much as possible unless you are in difficult circumstances and you have no choice. Even then know that your body need at least 2 days to clean up all the chemicals you absorbed from those noodles. So make sure you stop eating a pack of noodles for at least 3 days after a session of noodles.

 

  • After ingesting instant noodles please don’t hit a soft drink along, you are gonna make things worse. Instead drink lot of water to get rid of the excess salts and chemicals.
